本日は、COBのアウトドアタイプについてご紹介いたします。
これまで屋外用LEDディスプレイの主流はSMDでしたが、近年ではGOBも徐々に市場に出始めています。一方で、COBのアウトドアタイプは、防水性能や輝度不足といった課題から、これまで選択肢が限られていました。しかし今回、1.5mmピッチのアウトドア対応COBモデルが登場しましたので、その特徴をご説明いたします。
まずモジュール構造についてです。本製品は屋外仕様のため、防水用のパッキングが施されています。表面の質感は従来のCOBそのものですが、防水設計は完全にアウトドア対応となっています。従来のCOBモジュールは比較的薄型のものが多い傾向にありましたが、本モデルは筐体がより堅牢に設計されており、ダイキャスト構造を採用しています。背面のパーツ構成も屋外仕様らしく、耐久性を重視した設計となっています。
キャビネットサイズは500mm×500mmの一般的な規格です。設置後の仕上がりは非常に美しく、継ぎ目がほとんど視認できません。発色も極めて鮮明で、均一性の高い表示が実現されています。
また、発熱に関しても特筆すべき点があります。高輝度の屋外モデルは通常発熱が大きい傾向にありますが、本製品はCOB構造の特性により熱量が比較的低く抑えられています。これにより、長期的な安定性や耐久性の向上が期待できます。
耐久性については、屋外でのCOB使用事例がまだ多くないため参考情報となりますが、強い西日を継続的に受ける環境下では、およそ3年程度の耐用を想定する声もあります。設置環境によっては、ガラスでの保護や追加防水対策、直接雨風が当たりにくい施工など、運用面での工夫が求められる場合もあります。
それでも、この高い映像美と1.5mmピッチの精細さを屋外環境で実現できる点は大きな魅力です。用途や設置条件に応じて検討する価値のある製品だと考えます。
ショールーム用途など、視認性や再現性を重視する空間では特に効果を発揮する可能性があります。高精細なCOBを窓際などの環境に設置する選択肢としても、有力なソリューションになり得るでしょう。
Today, I would like to introduce the outdoor-type COB display.
Until now, SMD has been the mainstream technology for outdoor LED displays, and more recently, GOB has also started to gain presence in the market. However, outdoor COB options have been limited due to concerns such as waterproof performance and insufficient brightness. With the release of a new 1.5mm pitch outdoor COB model, we now have a product that addresses these challenges, and I would like to explain its key features.
First, regarding the module structure: since this product is designed for outdoor use, it is equipped with waterproof packing. While the surface texture retains the characteristic feel of COB, the overall construction is fully adapted for outdoor environments. Compared to conventional COB modules, which are often relatively thin, this model features a more robust housing and adopts a die-cast structure. The rear components are also designed with durability in mind, reflecting its outdoor specification.
The cabinet size is the standard 500mm × 500mm format. Once installed, the finish is exceptionally clean, with seams that are virtually invisible. The color reproduction is highly vivid, delivering excellent uniformity and image quality.
Another notable point is heat performance. High-brightness outdoor models typically generate significant heat; however, thanks to the COB structure, this model maintains comparatively low heat output. This characteristic is expected to contribute to improved long-term stability and durability.
As for lifespan, since there are still relatively few long-term outdoor COB case studies, available information remains somewhat limited. Based on feedback, continuous exposure to strong western sunlight may result in an approximate durability of around three years. Depending on the installation environment, additional protective measures—such as glass coverage, enhanced waterproofing, or positioning to reduce direct exposure to rain—may be advisable.
Nevertheless, achieving this level of visual quality and 1.5mm fine pitch performance in an outdoor setting is a significant advantage. It is a product worth considering, depending on the intended application and environmental conditions.
For showroom applications, especially where image reproduction and visual impact are priorities, this display offers strong potential. Installing a fine-pitch COB display near windows or in high-visibility areas may prove to be an effective solution.
